As a medical practice grows, some things are outsourced to companies that take on the responsibility of a lot of office jobs in the practice, like medical billing and coding. This lessens the amount of work that is performed in-house, allowing the practice to grow. Also, those companies that provide these services known as medical billing services only have that one thing to focus on, so the percentage of full payment for claims rises. All of the time in a medical billing practice is dedicated to the submission and follow up of claims (medical billing and coding), and assuring payment to the provider of services. There is concern about the outsourcing of services, though, because business is often sent outside the country. This means HIPAA is not enforced, and this raises the concern that a patient’s information is not secure, and someone’s health records and personal information is at risk.
